GLOBAL INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION STANDARD

Treadmark is excited to be the New Zealand course provider for the PMBIA. Our involvement in the community and approach to mountain biking coaching in Queenstown aligns with PMBIA’s mission and values to bring high certification standards and quality to the industry.

We are looking forward to leading the charge and organize courses that reflect ‘The gold standard of MTB instructor education in New Zealand’.

PMBIA SYSTEM OVERVIEW

PMBIA certifications integrate modern, evidence-based teaching methodologies with a skill-based model specific to mountain biking. By providing a detailed analysis of the physics and biomechanics of mountain biking, our curriculum offers instructors an organized, technical framework for professional instruction.

This approach enables PMBIA-certified instructors to deliver safer, more effective lessons across all disciplines, from cross-country to downhill. As a global leader, the PMBIA maintains the highest international standards for both teaching and guiding excellence.

I just wanted to give you a quick overview of PMBIA courses so you know what to expect and how to prepare, whether you’re signing up for an intermediate or advanced course.

Throughout the course, you’ll learn about the PMBIA framework, which includes class management, safety, terrain analysis, the 6 Skills System, and the IDEA progression — a step-by-step method used to introduce, develop, explore, and apply mountain bike skills.

You may already be a strong rider or an experienced coach with plenty of knowledge, but what this course really helps with is application — providing a clear structure that allows you to deliver that knowledge in a way that creates consistent and successful outcomes for your students.

In terms of assessment, you’ll be assessed on both your riding and your teaching. However, I’d strongly encourage you to prioritize the teaching side. Riding retests are generally more straightforward and can often be completed later via video submission. Teaching retests are more involved and may require attending part of another course.

Across the course, the Instructor Trainer will clearly demonstrate the required skills and protocols, provide feedback, and help you understand exactly what’s needed to be successful throughout the course.

If you have any questions about signing up, feel free to message us — we’re more than happy to provide the information you need to help you have a successful course.
